Trenchless relining (also called CIPP - Cured-In-Place Pipe Lining) is a method of repairing damaged sewer or drain pipes without digging them up.
Instead of excavating and replacing the old pipe, technicians:
- Inspect the line with a sewer camera.
- Clean the pipe using hydro jetting or mechanical cleaning.
- Insert a flexible liner saturated with epoxy resin into the existing pipe.
- Inflate the liner so it molds to the inside of the old pipe.
- Allow it to cure, creating a seamless new pipe inside the old one.
- Re-open connections and perform a final camera inspection.
The result is essentially a new pipe inside the old pipe, restoring flow and sealing cracks, root intrusion points, and leaks.
Benefits
- ✅ No major digging or landscape destruction.
- ✅ Faster than traditional pipe replacement.
- ✅ Can extend pipe life by 20+ years (many systems last much longer depending on materials and installation).
- ✅ Resistant to root intrusion and corrosion.
- ✅ Often more cost-effective when considering restoration of concrete, landscaping, or flooring.
Good candidates for relining:
- Cracks and fractures
- Root intrusion
- Offset joints (minor)
- Corrosion
- Leaking pipes
Not ideal for:
- Completely collapsed pipes.
- Severe bellies (sags) that hold water.
- Pipes that have lost too much structural integrity without spot repairs first.
